Update from John Vallely Chairman

Dear fellow Combe members,

As ever I hope that you, your families and friends are all safe and well. These are very difficult times and affect us all in different ways; whether through the illness itself, loneliness, anxiety or financially. If you or anyone close to you need help or support, remember that the club and its members are here to do what we can for the Combe family.

Since I last wrote, the various committees that run the club have been busy to make sure that Combe are ready if season 2020/21 starts on schedule. With our recent promotion let's hope that this is the case.

Phil Tagg has arranged for a complete overhaul of the heating and hot water system so the problems we have had with hot water to the showers should be resolved. Grounds maintenance has been a problem on several fronts but JWT has found a potential solution which he and the Operations Committee are working on.

On the Rugby Playing front Rob our DoR recently updated the website with the positive developments on players and coaches for the new season as well as the news that James Lindfield will be assisting in the management of the 1st XV which is great news.

The main management committee has been working to ensure that the club's finances are reasonably healthy for the new season. We have taken steps to reduce as much as possible our fixed costs and have applied for government support where this is available. We are continuing to meet by conference call and are keeping any changes caused by the Coronavirus emergency under review.

Finally whatever happens, the new season will be challenging as will life in general. One thing which would be great is if we could increase the number of volunteers who run the club. So if you have any particular skills and would like to help the club to further success please let us know.

In the meantime I hope everyone stays safe and well.

All the best

John
